BIRD ID QUIZ #4. BEFORE YOU HIT THE SLIDESHOW TAB IN THE UPPER RIGHT TO BEGIN, PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING. GREETINGS FELLOW BIRDERS AND PHOTOGRAPHERS. AS MANY OF US ARE HOME OR CLOSE TO HOME I THOUGHT I WOULD CHALLENGE YOUR BIRD ID SKILLS. ALTHOUGH I ENJOY PHOTOGRAPHING ALL TYPES OF BIRDS AND WILDLIFE, MY FAVORITES ARE DUCKS AND SHOREBIRDS. I ENJOY BEING NEAR AND SOMETIMES IN THE WATER, ESPECIALLY AT THE SHORE. THERE ARE 76 SLIDES HERE OF 38 SPECIES OF "WATER BIRDS" FOUND ALONG THE EAST COAST OF THE UNITED STATES. ALL OF THE IMAGES WERE TAKEN FROM MAINE TO FLORIDA. THE BIRDS I ENCOUNTER ARE RUDE. MANY TAKE OFF, TURN THEIR HEADS AWAY OR BURY THEIR HEADS IN THE SAND. SO HERE IS HOW THIS QUIZ WORKS.EACH SLIDE WILL BE ON THE SCREEN FOR 4 SECONDS. THE FIRST SLIDE WILL SHOW THE "BUTT" VIEW OR THE FACE WILL BE PARTLY HIDDEN, THE NEXT SLIDE WILL SHOW A COMPLETE BIRD WITH THE PROPER ID. SOME OF THE BIRDS WILL BE DIFFICULT TO ID-ESPECIALLY THE TURNS.
THE FIRST FEW SHOULD BE EASY FOR YOU AND ARE A CONFIDENCE BOOSTER. LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK; THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE UGLY-GOOD LUCK. HIT THE SLIDESHOW TAB IN THE UPPER RIGHT TO BEGIN.
what fun, sort of.....it was so fast for me that i could feel the tension building. and like Kevin, i guessed willet before i got it right. the limpkin was a stunner which i didnt get since it has been 36 years since i have seen one. sigh.... and of course, the shots were wonderful! thank you for the fun and the diversion. maybe give a couple of extra seconds next time....if there is a next time?
That was a fun quiz Harris. Thank you! I must say I didn't do all that we'll, but I was surprised I got some of the ones I did. I think I guessed 'Willet' incorrectly for four birds before finally getting it right! As usual, the images are top drawer.
glad you have the time to get these great pics
